Shirley A. Smedema, 79, of Janesville went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 15, 2017. She was born on October 7, 1937 in Rockford, IL, the daughter of Merril and Florence Koelker. She graduated from Muldoon High School in Rockford and attended U-W Plattville where she met her future husband, Ralph C. Smedema. They married on March 22, 1958. Together they had four children. In 1969, they moved to Mukwonago, WI. Shirley was employed by the Mukwonago School District for many years. Her husband Ralph died on August 18, 1991. She moved to Janesville in 2001. Shirley was a long time member of the Reformed Church of America and was very involved in the women’s ministries. She loved knitting, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends. Shirley was a member of the Janesville YMCA where she enjoyed water classes with her special friends, “the Hens”. Shirley is survived by her beloved children; Cynthia (Eric) Stevens of Woodbury, MN, Neil ( Jennifer) Smedema of Oconomowoc, WI, Cheryl (Peter) Zbaracki of New Hope, MN, Kathleen (Michael) Morgan of Janesville, her cherished grandchildren; Erika (Ryan) Ross, Caleb (Megan) Stevens, Micah (Leah) Stevens, Emilie Zbaracki, Samantha Zbaracki, Anne Shirley Morgan, Mary Morgan and James Morgan, her precious great-grandchildren; Levi and Isla Stevens and Oden and Bjarke Stevens and her sister, Garneth Hook. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and parents and by her brother, Richard Koelker. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 24th at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 North Wright Rd. Janesville. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 25th at Turning Point Church, 2618 Mt. Zion Ave., Janesville. There will be a viewing one half hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. at the church. Rev. Tom Zillman will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. followed by burial in the Randolph Cemetery.
